Booking an Appointment


Making An Appointment

 

To make an appointment, please call 020 8423 8423 during practice opening times and a receptionist will be pleased to help you. You may also register for our on-line services which will enable you to make and cancel appointments over the internet even when the practice is closed.

 

The practice offers appointments for booking at up to three weeks in advance as well as providing some "same-day" appointments available from 8.45 each morning. If you wish to be seen on the day you call, you are advised to call as early as possible as these appointments are taken very quickly. The maximum you should normally wait for a pre-booked appointment is two working days although you may occasionally need to wait longer for a doctor of your choice, particularly during holiday periods.

 

When you make your appointment, you will be asked if you mind giving the reason for your visit. This helps to direct patients to the appropriate health care professional (for example, minor problems can easily be dealt with by one of our nurses) and enables us to consider whether we can offer you a telephone consultation with the doctor as an alternative. By doing this, we hope to keep our waiting times to see a doctor as short as possible. Anything you say to a member of staff at the practice is always treated as strictly confidential and we hope you will not feel embarrassed giving a brief reason to reception staff whose priority is to help you as much as possible. If, however, you prefer not to give the reason, we completely understand and you should not feel pressured to do so.

 

Telephone Consultations

 

You may also speak to a doctor on the telephone between 12.00-12.30 any weekday or to our nurse practitioner between 12.30-1.00 on a Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. If you wish to use this service, please call the practice between these times. We do not give appointments for telephone consultations so we ask that you are patient if you have to wait a few minutes before being put through.

 

Keeping Your Appointment

 

We ask that you are punctual for your appointment to avoid long waiting times for other patients. If you are more than 10 minutes late, the doctor or nurse may not see you and you will be asked to rebook. If you need to cancel your appointment, we ask that you provide us with as much notice as possible to ensure that we can use the appointment for another patient and keep waiting times as short as possible.

 

Interpreting Services

 

If you are unable to speak English, we will book an interpreter who will accompany you at your appointment with the doctor or nurse. We usually require at least 48 hours notice for this but if your problem is urgent, we can arrange for an interpreter to be available on the telephone when you attend.


Chaperones


The practice offers chaperones for intimate examinations. Several of our staff have been trained to be chaperones and have undergone the required DBS checks. If you would like a chaperone present during your consultation, please speak to your doctor or nurse or ask at reception.
